July 2nd

sunny and warm--well, it is July...
spent $8.05
another fun day!

7-2saddleStapler
  • unusual "saddle stapler" a little rusty, but the seller said it works just fine--1

7-2

  • 8 Heinlein paperbacks (2 titles new to us)--2/all
  • box of staples (included with stapler, pictured above)
  • photo book with wooden covers (bought it for the wood)--25 cents
  • craftsman wrench carrier--free (thrown in with the Heinlein books)

7-2iwasThere
  • hardcover, I Was There, Gigs That Changed the World (book about iconic concerts)--50 cents

7-2slate
  • 6 slate tiles--3

7-2globe

  • bought 2 of these nice vintage lamp globes--1/both

7-2Cheech
We bought the globes at the garage sale of the man pictured on the right (that's Mick on the left), who somehow managed to remind all of us of Cheech Marin. Kirk (his real name) thought it was really funny that we would all think that, and we had a good time joking around with him while we were there. He started saying "Far out man" and cracking jokes about low riders, and then Gail took this picture of Mick and "Cheech" on her phone (which is obviously set to take super-small pictures!).

7-2b
  • hardcover (and falling apart), The Adventures of Paddy Pork--10 cents
  • grapefruit spoon--20 cents
  • that box of staples again...
Photobucket

Joe discovered the Paddy Pork book, and it is a real gem. No text at all, the story is conveyed through the drawings, which change with the position of the half pages positioned between the full sized pages. For instance, in the picture above, the half page rests on the right

7-2PP1

and in this picture, the half page has been flipped to the left, advancing the story

7-2PP3

another example: picture 1

7-2PP4

flip the half page to see picture 2.

So clever and well done. My mother would have appreciated this book,  she loved stuff like this.
