Diesel and Panda were having a great time playing. Diesel moved just as the shutter clicked, and I had the lights low, so she was recorded as mostly a blur of motion. The camera has always had trouble seeing her.

July 8th and 16th

hot both weeks

spent $1.50 last week
        $10.25 this week

Joe wasn't feeling well and stayed home on the 8th, and I didn't find much, so last week's cuuh logging was delayed until today

Quite a few sales today, and seemed to be more people shopping than in the past few weeks

This week's (7-16) cuuh:
7-16

  • insulated lunch bag--50 cents
  • 5 very nice women's leather belts--1.25/all
  • Rowenta clothes steamer brush--3
  • 2 lidded brass pots from Syria--50 cents/both
  • handful of hair-ties and clips--1/all
  • 2 cloth napkins--50 cents/both
  • set of 4 blue cloth napkins--$1/all
  • glass (florist's) frog--50 cents
  • frosted glass vase (that we are going to use for a lamp lens)--50 cents
  • package of heat tape (for gutters, pipes, etc)--25 cents

    7-16butterfly

Close up of one of the hair clips, the nicest one, a metal butterfly ponytail clip with rhinestones!!!

7-16b

  • very nice vinyl bag, no tears or stains, working zipper--25 cents
  • beautiful woven bag from Syria, filled with the 6 little lamps, also from Syria--free

Joe got chatting with a very nice woman having a sale, about the glass frog he was buying, telling her how he planned to fill the holes with LEDs and turn it into a very decorative light fixture. She thought that was great, and she then pulled out the bag with the little lamps and showed them to him, telling him that she had brought them back here, hoping to find a way to use them here. But now she is moving and doesn't want to take them with her, so she offered them to Joe if he thought he could use them. She even through in the bag they were in, so it was easily "deal of the day" (and I thought those 25 cent leather belts would be hard to beat!). And yes, the 2 little Syrian lidded pots were also from her sale, priced right, mostly.

7-16car

July 2nd

sunny and warm--well, it is July...
spent $8.05
another fun day!

7-2saddleStapler
  • unusual "saddle stapler" a little rusty, but the seller said it works just fine--1

7-2globe

  • bought 2 of these nice vintage lamp globes--1/both

7-2Cheech
We bought the globes at the garage sale of the man pictured on the right (that's Mick on the left), who somehow managed to remind all of us of Cheech Marin. Kirk (his real name) thought it was really funny that we would all think that, and we had a good time joking around with him while we were there. He started saying "Far out man" and cracking jokes about low riders, and then Gail took this picture of Mick and "Cheech" on her phone (which is obviously set to take super-small pictures!).

7-2b
  • hardcover (and falling apart), The Adventures of Paddy Pork--10 cents
  • grapefruit spoon--20 cents
  • that box of staples again...
Photobucket

Joe discovered the Paddy Pork book, and it is a real gem. No text at all, the story is conveyed through the drawings, which change with the position of the half pages positioned between the full sized pages. For instance, in the picture above, the half page rests on the right

7-2PP1

and in this picture, the half page has been flipped to the left, advancing the story

7-2PP3

another example: picture 1

7-2PP4

flip the half page to see picture 2.

So clever and well done. My mother would have appreciated this book,  she loved stuff like this.
